The invitations have been sent, the committees have been working hard preparing a wonderful weekend, and now all we need is YOU!! Please send in your Reply Card or you can RSVP on line (click here). (Please remember to RSVP even for the complimentary events so we can plan appropriately.)
This video, created to get people excited about the 50th anniversary, won 3rd place in a competition among Jewish Day Schools around the country. It wasn’t created for the competition. The judging categories included voting by judges and voting by the public. Obviously our ‘public’ is much smaller than that of other Jewish communities. We won the judging competition which is more meaningful. It is amazing that a small school like ours produces content on par with schools that have much bigger resources than ours. It is also telling that a graduate of our school, with no professional video production experience, created this video, wrote the music, and gathered the talent. Congratulations to Talie Bielski Zaifert, 20th class, for winning the prize for us!! We are certainly a special community.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School!!
To commemorate this extraordinary milestone, we are excited to announce a weekend of festivities, May 4-6, 2012, which will celebrate our school’s history and secure its future.
Formally known as the “Foundation School” and the “Solomon Schechter Day School,” the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School has been a vital center for Jewish education in Jacksonville for fifty years. The enduring success of this educational institution is a tribute to generations of students, teachers, families, clergy, supporters and communal partners. For a Jewish day school to reach this milestone is rare; it is rarer still in a Jewish community of our size.
Our 50th Anniversary weekend consists of four cornerstone events:
Saturday, May 5th: Shabbat Services & Kiddush Luncheon
Honoring Former & Current Faculty & Staff
Saturday Night, May 5th: Alumni Reunion
Sunday, May 6th: Family Fun Day
Sunday Night, May 6th: 50th Anniversary Dinner
You are invited to be part of this meaningful celebration. Volunteers have already begun to organize the various events as well as the Anniversary Tribute Journal, where our community can congratulate the school in print. For more information, contact Dr. Jon Mitzmacher, MJGDS Head of School: jon.mitzmacher@mjgds.org or (904) 268-4200 ext.148.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Jewish education in Jacksonville!
With warmest regards,
Bruce Horovitz and Andrea Mail
